Sporting Gijón fell to their mighty visitors on Sunday night in Gijón, in a hotly contested match from start to finish. The last two matches between the Catalans and Gijón were a 1-1 draw and a harrowing 1-0 victory for Barcelona. This match would be no different, and for Gijón it presented an opportunity to prove to Spain that they were ready to make a run away from the cellar of the league table. Especially at El Molinón, where giants come to be slain. Barça entered the match as heavy favorites, but were still looking for their first away win in La Liga play. Thanks to the left boot of Brazilian midfielder Adriano Correire, Barça narrowly escaped with a victory.
